Urban Roots
Urban Roots is a community led environmental and health improvement charity working across the Southside. We empower people to make choices and lifestyle changes that are beneficial for them, their communities and the environment. We bring together diverse groups through events and activities which welcome all.
We have transformed numerous derelict or unused green spaces into thriving, blossoming community gardens to create well used, safe outdoor social spaces.Malls Mire woods has been changed from a neglected site for fly-tipping, into a thriving Local Nature Reserve, with an exciting program of conservation work, therapeutic activities and outdoor adventure play for children.Urban Explorers after school clubs and Into the Woods holiday programs run in green spaces across to support children to play and learn outside. The Great Grub program involves cookery courses and clubs, community meals and REHIS qualifications. We are currently also working on the SE Foodbank Support Service which addresses the needs of people experiencing food insecurity.
