Feminist Exchange Network
Feminist Exchange Network is a small CIC behind The People’s Bank of Govanhill and Swap Market projects. We use social and activist art as a way to involve people in reimagining the local economy, discussing ideas of feminist economics in a way that is accessible to everyone.
The People’s Bank of Govanhill takes existing local economies as a starting point to explore ways of putting feminist economics into practice at community level. What began as a series of currency experiments, ad-hoc exchanges and on-the-street discussions has grown into a long term collaborative project. Our exchange space, Swap Market opened in September 2018 providing a space for swapping and sharing resources without the need for money. With around 2,000 members the project combined art and activism to instigate collective thinking on what a better economic model would look like, grown from the ground up. We held events, film screenings, talks, art installations and workshops on community commoning, action on climate change, degrowth and intersectional feminism in practice alongside games afternoons and mending sessions.
