Pollokshields Development Agency (PDA) is a charity which aims to promote social inclusion, developmental and educational programmes, multi-racial youth agenda and work towards tackling local issues in Glasgow.
SEIN funding went towards PDA’s ‘Home School’ project which was developed in response to hearing parents’ concerns that their children are not doing as well as their counterparts at school and feel their children could succeed with more support. The project ran a range of workshops for parents to enable them to assist their primary school children with homework, gain an understanding of the education system, how to communicate effectively with their child’s school, with the aim to address the deficits in the educational attainments of children from BME backgrounds.
“The activities empowered parents and helped increase their confidence to be more involved in the education of their children. Some of the parents have found that they are able to help their children with their homework and when they struggle they come into the Project and seek guidance from the tutors.”
