Last month, SEIN member Bike for Good Community Hub held a event celebrating the end of their year-long women’s cycling project; ‘Pedal Pathways’.
The event took place at Bike for Good Community Hub on Victoria Road, in Govanhill. All women who had taken part in the year long project were invited to the event. The Pedal Pathways project had worked with women’s groups around Glasgow, so many had not been to the Hub before. The idea of the event was so women could meet other women from different groups, share stories, and enjoy an evening of food and activities, and also learn how they could continue cycling journey.
As well as there being lots of opportunities to share from the Hub, there were other women’s cycling groups attending who were sharing information, and also some very reasonably priced second hand bikes for sale.
Bike for Good were very grateful to SEIN for support towards travel expenses which allowed some of the women to attend who may not otherwise have been able to join the celebration. It was wonderful that a group of women from the Govan Community Project attended, who had never been to the Hub before. Some brought their children and most of them went home with a new bike (with the help of a couple of taxis, and a friend with a car!)
They were able to enjoy the event with activities for their children, food, and some even got a relaxing acupressure massage. Hopefully they will return for further support knowing that it is a welcoming friendly space that they can use with their families.
See above for a photo of some of the women enjoying the event!
With thanks to Eilidh Graham, from Bike for Good.
